Telecom spaces
- Identify MDF/IDF, rack or cabinet locations
- Confirm available rack space and cable-management condition
- Document power and grounding responsibilities where relevant
- Note room access, heat, dust or shared-space constraints
The telecom space is part of the pathway—not just a place to terminate cables.
Pathways & distance
- Existing conduit, tray, sleeves or J-hooks
- Above-ceiling or wall access
- Fire-rated penetrations or restricted areas
- Approximate route length between endpoints and telecom spaces
Media & termination
- Copper category or fiber type required by the design
- Singlemode/multimode requirements when specified
- Connector/termination expectations
- Patch panels, enclosures, cassettes or splice-tray requirements
Media selection should follow the system design, distance, bandwidth, environment and customer standard.
Labeling & administration
- Cable ID/naming format
- Rack/patch-panel numbering
- Outlet/faceplate labeling
- Port schedule or records expected at handoff
Testing & acceptance
- Copper certification or continuity requirement
- Fiber loss/OTDR requirements when specified
- Test-result file format and naming
- Acceptance criteria and remediation responsibility
Testing should be agreed in the scope so the handoff is measurable.
